Game Plan- Week 5

In reviewing my progress so far, I have found that I am in pretty good shape. I know what I am doing, how to proceed, and have the technology accessible. I have two small problems: 1. No class to Skype with yet. 2. Need to have the nerve to actually do it. I am pretty technology oriented, so that part is not bothering me. It is more student behaviors and preparedness. I hope they are attentive, respectful, and appropriate in all senses of the word.
I think I need to focus on a Skypeing partner and designing some rules above and beyond our own classroom rules. I also don't think I need to modify things as yet. However, once I find another class to work with, more joint decisions will have to be made.

  1. Mrs C.,
I am glad to hear that you are doing so well on your GAME plan. I think half of the battle is stirring up the courage to follow through with your goals. I know that skyping with another class will be nerve racking the first time, but it will get easier each time that you do it. Hope you find another class to skpye with soon.

  2. Mrs. C.,

It sounds like you are well on your way! Have you checked with partner schools in your district about skyping? I know that there are a few teachers here that would skype, but I'm sure that time zones and school schedules might be difficult to plan around. Other than trying to find another class to skype with I think that it is an excellent idea to come up with rules ahead of time! Students also need to understand how skyping works before jumping into it. Do you already have administration/parent approval?

  3. I think that you have a great idea. There are a couple of teachers in my school district who are super technology savvy and do a lot with technology who might want to skype. Only problem is is that we are out of school for the summer so it wouldn't work till next year. What grade level?

    Thanks!
I teach at a Catholic school in PA. So it is not a district, but the whole Archdiocese of Philadelphia. I will be getting in contact with the new school. Pop John Paul II in July, since it is still being built and is not scheduled to be completed till after we are finished school. This school has all of the latest technology available as well as having every teacher and student having netbooks. Every classroom is web conference ready. This school will be the best for me to work with for my first Skype. I hope I can pull it off. Then I will move on to different states and maybe time zones.
My admins are all for technology. The students/parents are well aware of their technology contracts and consequences for inappropriate behaviors.
    Thanks for the comment.

  7. Sounds like you are ready to go! I can imagine with high school kids that you would have to lay down many ground rules in order to do this correctly. Skype is such a cool program! I think you and the students will love it! Good luck!

  8. Hey, what grade level do you teach again? I am looking for a teacher around the country that would be interesting in doing some collaborating with alike grade levels. I think this would be a great experience for my young high school students who feel that their own little worlds are the most important things ever! Let me know!
